there's not enough dirt in new york city to even know if the flowers are in bloom. the legs, however, are most definitely in bloom. the winter weather sucks so much that when spring rolls around everyone is rediculously happy. i walked through the columbia campus yesterday around noon and and the quad was full of sunbathers and other people enjoying themselves. i wonder if they realize there are places where they can be happy year-round?

i began my middle school placement last week at a school in the Bronx. after school on tuesday one student from our school pulled a knife on another student from our school and robbed him of his cell phone. the poice were in the next day. at the end of the day it was announced that all students had to be off of school property when schoo llets out. no more playing in the yard due to this event and other similar instances of theft and violoence that have occured over the past month at schools in the area.

the Bronx depresses me. there isn't much that is attractive about it, at least of the parts i've seen. and these poor kids aren't even safe at school.
