Cambridge
I am in cambridge now. Europe was fantastic. I'm not sure I've ever had more fun in ten days than the past ten days. I felt so free. Being out of contact with everyone I know except for my travelling companions was an amazing feeling. I had planned to 'stay in touch' and one of our hostels even had free internet, but whenever I had time I was too tired to care because I had done so much and had so much fun. So my summation of the five cities i visited:
Paris: hustle and bustle(sp?) of new york without gigantic buildings. eifel tower took about five minutes to enjoy. spent new years on the champ eleeys. we were at the arc de triumph and looked toward the end of the champ. the street was filled from building front to building front with people. we estimated there were at least 200,000 people there. this is a very conservative estimate. ham and cheese is awesome- and the french agree. on a final note the french are not rude at all. at least in my experience. i realyl cannot understand where that sterotype comes from because i did not encounter a single rude person( excluding myself of course). beautiful builfings, good art.
Barcelona: possibly the most amazing place on earth. i think i enjoyed barcelona more than the others cuz its just my style. eat dinner at 10, go to a bar, then at one or two got clubbin. though the clubs are deneley packed with smoke. got to sleep. wake up, eat lunch. go back to sleep. repeat. the mullet is huge in the B-lona. men AND women rock the mullet (pronouncey muyet). tat first you dont realize the women are rockin it because its adifferent kind o mullet. but i started to like it. and the men take it to new levels. well most dont. they just have littel party in the back. but some are long and very well groomed. fantasic. the style is also soooo different. anyways, i lvoed this place.
florence: great art. great food. GREAT FUCKIN FOOD. every day i didnt care what everyone else wnated to do, so long as we ate at a good place. fortunatley every palce is a good place. italian food in america is nothing like in italy. oh and matt jared and i became wine drinkers. we consumed at least two liters a night, ifnot more. also very nice people here. in italy we had the biggest problem with communication becasue none of us knew a lick of itralian. for example- manisha oredered a coke on the first night. they brought a diet coke (they were out of regular coke but we didnt understand what they said). so after trying a few english words to get a regualr coke, i leaned over and covered up the 'diet' on the can with my hand. immeadiately the waitor understood and said something like 'finito.' then he asked if she wanted a sprite. she said that would be fine. the sprite never came.
lucern: the swiss alps are amazing. food is okay- if you like food that ranges from white to brown. lots of watches. oh and if you ever need a swiss army knife- go to switzerland... or you local knife shop. but man these people sell swiss army knives like americans sell fat. our hotel sold them in the lobby! oh and they are obsessed with clocks. and witches. i think they might have permanent halloween there or something. we couldnt figure it out. amazingly we didnt really need to know german. almost everyone spoke english. we went to the top of mount pilatus. amazing. ill post pictures later once i get my computer set up.
oh and finally rome: we took a day trip to rome from florence. we had about six hours htere (this is what the cheapest train tickets afforded us). after four hours we were done with the whole city! this was ebcause all of the ruins and the coliseum closed early the day we went- still not sure why though. needless to say, we were unable to go inside the coliseum or check out the roman forum. we did see the markeplace that manisha and i had learned about in art history though. it was awesome.
so to sum up: good food, good people, good weather, attractive women(just for lokking), fun fun fun.
