The Passion!!!!
So i saw teh passion today (of the Chirst). I learned two things:
1. In america today the term violence means gore.
2. Jesus fell down A LOT.
I dont think the following will be a spoiler, but dont read till after you see the movie if you care or anyhting.
So i though it was a well-made movie from the point of view of like the visuals and the production value. some very nice shots and such. i was "dissapointed" with the so-called violence becasue there really is not as much of it as I had thought there would be. i was htinking at least 2/3 would be violent. instead like 1/10 was violent and 35-40% was gorey (gory?, go ray? goorey?). but at its worst moment, its pretty damn sick. the guy that played jesus was good. i also felt like there was some embellishment of the facts or the unknowns to make things cooler and more amazing or something. but, not knowing the whole hting very well in the first place it is hard for me to determine what is for realsies (i.e. part of christian scripture and such or added stuff to make jesus rock even more). like i htought in the movie jesus was real cocky and i attributed that to the people writeing the script having pride in their savior and having that prideshow through. but geetha informed me that jesus was pretty cocky based on the studying she has done on this very subject. there are some other things, but ill leave that for later. anyways the movie seemed pretty popular- we went to see the 4:10 show. it and the 5:30 show were sold out. so we had to wait and see the 6:30. one funny thing is htat some of the bloodt parts kinda reminded me of kill bill in that the blood kinda squirted out very similarly, but not at comedically due to the context.
on a side note, most experts say that jesus was actually nailed in the wrist not hte hands because the hands could not support his body, but by placing the nail through the two bones in the arm the body is supported so when hte knees weaken they cna hang by the arms. the confusion over this arose because the word used in teh bible (or wherever they describe the crossaffixtion) originally translates to hand, but hand includes the wrist. so noone really knows, but they say the wrist is hte only way to do it.
oh yeah, the anti-semitism. i can see where people would come to the conclusion that this movie is antisemetic, but i htink that is when you try to see it. if someone wants to take that fomr this movie they can easily pick and choose moments that isolated form teh rest of the movie make a failry strong case. but the fact is that there are "good" and "bad" people in this movie, and besides the Romans, theyre all jews!!! so of course there are gona be jews doin bad things, if there werent we wouldnt have story. but thats like having a movie in america and saying that its antiamerican because the "bad" people are american. i think that alls i got for nizzle. enjoy the passion, but not too much, that might be a sin. but i dont know.
