in reference to marie's jan 27 '04 post i have the following to say:
1.that chem bitch better recognize. she dont know who shes dealin' with
2. however, i disagree that modelling proteins is math-computer tricks, well they are math computer tricks, but i think you dont give those tricks enough credit. the protein modeling guy here (steve mayo) is super duper smart, and in order to predict protein folding you have to get the energy equations right, adn this is no easy task. its tricky, adn requires tricky math and computer tricks.
3. i agree that the eco/evo bio does require a lot of knowledge of the science and is probably underrated in this respect, but although when you are learning chem or bio in the context of a laboratory it is very much a recipe kind of thing, when it comes down to research i htink it takes jsut as much intuition as the eco/evo. of course, different types of insight are seen differently by different people, so perhaps whati see as impressive you dont, and visa versa, i dont know.
4. i hear ya on the scientific method. im not sure ive ever gone in the order that was in the textbooks in high school. it jsut doesnt happen that way. its kinda disheartening, because it seems so cool when you first learn it. though thinking on your feet is fun too.
5. i also feel you on the underrated thing. biologists get little respect fro other fields here, esp the undergrads, becasue we have it easier. though as much as i would never want to do a physics set im retty sure a physicist would also never want to do one of my bio sets (as rob would say "it looks like youre doing an awful lot of writing for that, i dont like writing"). working in a plant lab, i get this even more, but from biologists. this is becasue plant bio is not stressed in any of our classes, so people usually laugh at me when i tell them i work in the plant lab. but i really like the plants. and as i alluded to earlier, its not as if i couldnt do physics or chemistry, its that i find them boring in comparison to biology.
6. i am not feeling the suicide girls. i do not look for personality or character in my tits, personally. im looking for good tits, and less cranial accessories, and body piercing, and tats, adn funky makeup, but thats jsut me. petey finds these things cuz hes a sick fuck, well not really. i jsut wanted to say sick fuck.
7. as for our conversation. i was satisfied with my conclusions, i dont think you were, so hence you were unsatisfied. but thats ok. i understand why.
anyways, i broke down this post, cuz i saw an opportunity to give some of my opinion on topics i find important. i hope i did not offend.
