cult status
i am currently in upstate new york teaching korean students english. i got this job through my yoga center, which is a part of a large organization of yoga centers, by which i mean a cult. there is a chance you will never hear form me again. ok, i am kidding, kind of. there are definitely some peculiar practices around these parts, but alot of that, i have convinced myself, is cultural not cultish. the sutdents are very nice and really fantastic to work with. of the nine students I have worked with, the five girls have an amazing work ethic. the boys have trouble focusing most of the time. I have been hearing similar reports from the other teachers. i am expected to do a lot here with little pay. not exactly what i signed up for, but whatever I am here so I will do the best i can without doing too much.
i will be teaching at a new school next year, which is exciting and what not. i applied for a program a few months ago called teachers of tomorrow. it provides up to $3,400 to help pay for teaching costs, which includes loan payments. i got a letter detailing the steps i needed to take to be acepted into the program. they make it seem all serious and shit. basically you get a copy of your yearly review and take it to an office in brooklyn between certain times on a certain day. I figure we have to submit receipts at the end of the year to prove that we spent it. nope. i show them my review and they hand me a check for $3,400. it was shocking. the key now is to actually use it to pay off my loans and not buy awesome stuff for myself. so far i have been good, but you never know when an impulse buy is going tickle your taint.
i forgot to bring moisturizer with me so my face has been all dry and peely in places. uncomfortable. i also grabbed the wrond ipod conenctor. this is uber lame. the nano does not support fire wire, which my 4g ipod does support. i grabbed my firewire ipod connecter not really thinking about it to use with my nano and ipod+nike running doohicky. alas, it does not sync. luckily it will store up to 1000 workout in the ipod so i will be able to load that shit when i get back home. my imac is currently out of comission. this is a black eye for apple in my book.
i am currently reading Catch 22. awesomeness. i read 2/3 of it about a year ago and stopped due to it being due back at the libary [sic]. i left it upstairs in my room and do not feel like fetching it at this point. there was a quote i felt i should post given the current state of affairs in this country and all of the countries which we have sworn to be our sworn enemies. perhaps next time.
