best week in sports?
last week i thought sports might get the best of me, and they may have done just that. fuck, i just watched the 3rd period of game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. wtf? when did i last watch Hockey? maybe in the wake of the mighty duck movie/new team in the era 'frenzy' that 'swept' the greater los angeles area. i must admit that that last 20 minutes of the game was pretty exciting. will i be watching every game next year? probably not. maybe some playoffs.
anyways, from thursday of last week to thursday of this week the sporting world has seen/ will see the U.S. golf open, the last four games of the NBA finals, the conclsuion of the NHL finals, AND the world cup is well under way. i have watched some, if not a great deal, of all of these events and I have enjoyed every moment of it. has there been, will there be, a better week in sports this year? in four years? if this week also included the finals of the World Cup, then I would vote for a big YES, but the finals are not this week. maybe for American sports? the US will be playing twice this week, and they have a chance, which is huge for soccer (a.k.a. Association Football(AF)) in the US.
like Hockey, I have never been a huge AF fan most likely because i never played AF and never really understood what was going on. now that i have figured it all out im really digging the sport. i am getting tired of the former US players who are mow commentating these htings- they are obnoxious. either the US is terrible and showing no heart, or someone of non-american descent is ruimning it for the US. Brazil is awesome. they havent been playing well, so i have read, but for not playing well they are frickin entertainimating. also this is just silly. that is Ronaldinho, Brazil's best player. I didnt even think that was possible.

the trick is to switch to the spanish coverage of the world cup just before a goal is scored. for something that happens maybe twice a game, the american announcers just don't give it enough heart. also, the "GGGOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!" never gets old.
