Ah chute!

I recently received this in my email (I am a Whittier resident):

Dear Whittier / Lowell Residents:

We have no choice but to close the compactor chute (immediately) on each floor due to continued improper use. On two occasions in the past two weeks feces has been dropped into the chute. This has caused serious health concerns and has had an extremely negative impact on the building staff responsible for servicing the trash compactor. As a result of these incidents the facilities office will be hiring an outside firm to clean the trash compactor chute and machinery. Until this work is performed the chute will be closed. We will place a trash can on each floor outside of the chute room for you to place your trash. The trash can will be emptied twice a day.

Items that should not go down the trash chute:

1. feces
2. glass
3. cigarette butts
4. oily rags
5. paint or paint thinner
6. wire hangers
7. aerosol cans
8. recyclable items (metal cans, plastic, newspaper, etc)

We do not know how long the compactor chute will be unavailable for general use. We will update you next week.
